A short end-of-year update..

So, some of the things described earlier this fall have happened (yeah), while some others have had some changes made…

“Eroded Lions,” the clarinet/trumpet/video piece mentioned has been played a bunch of times now by the ‘Vive Ensemble, and will be played again by Spencer and Katrina at the Splice Festival in Waterville, ME this March. You can see some videos of this on Vimeo – one with the performers visible, one focused on the video playback...

I’m hoping that the poet Joan Wickersham can attend the Maine performance, given that her poem was the inspiration for the piece. You can read about her work here.

Unfortunately, the premiere of my piece with librettist Cecelia Raker has been cancelled, along with the other pieces by all of the composer-librettist teams that were part of Boston Opera Collaborative’s Opera Bites project for this year. It’s horrible for the entire group of musicians involved, and it’s too bad that no one will see this opening line in January with witches’ costumes…

On a more positive note, I’ll be heading to the MacDowell Colony in mid-January, starting work on a couple of new projects – further info on those coming next year. Plus, practicing the bass clarinet licks in the Rite of Spring.
